HAAC Honour Roll 2006
HALTON HONOURS EXCELLENCE IN THE SKILLED TRADES
Halton, ON - The Halton Apprenticeship Advisory Council (HAAC) will once again honour skilled trades excellence and leadership in Halton. Honour Roll 2006 will be held on May 15, 2007 from 7:30 - 10:00 am at the Burlington Convention Centre, 1120 Burloak Drive in Burlington. Students, parents, educators and industry representatives are welcome. Attendees will learn about pathway opportunities available to students interested in the skilled trades as champion industry representatives are recognized for their demonstrated leadership in advancing skilled trades excellence. Registration is $30 per person or $240 for a table of eight.
This year, HAAC Honour Roll 2006 welcomes the Honourable Chris Bentley, Minster of Training, Colleges and Universities, who will bring greetings and an update about the exciting Employment Ontario initiative that ensures provincial access to over 2,000 training and employment providers. Minister Bentley is a strong believer that "The number one issue facing employers today is the search for talent - the competition for talent." HAAC members strongly support Minister Bentley's work, recognizing that it lays the groundwork for strategies to overcome challenges in the skilled trades.
The agenda will also include a special presentation showcasing Oakville's White Oaks Secondary School Wildcats Robotics Team, who took first place in the U.S.First Robotics competition. The team is primarily made up of students from the FAMS (Ford Academy of Manufacturing Science) program - one of the Province's Specialist High Skills Major projects with the Ministry of Education, and one of the many options available to students with an interest in manufacturing.
HAAC, a committee of the Halton Industry Education Council (HIEC), is a grassroots effort to coordinate business, education, labour, community and government to create an environment in which the skilled trades can excel. The annual Honour Roll is now in its 7th year, and was the first of its kind in Ontario. Included in HIEC's mandate is to help recognize, promote and provide information about valuable programs such as FAMS, with an overall vision of inspiring youth in Halton to make informed career decisions.
